The last of a mighty wilderness, the pine barrens are a unique ecosystem found only in one small habitat in North America.  Everyday it faces challenges that threaten its very existence.  The design depicted is strange & beautiful but its a reminder that the trees are under attack by various species of pine beetles.  Their intricate tunnels, although cool, cause irreversible damage & eventual death to the pitch pines (as well as many other conifers) that inhabit the barrens.  A true trail scout fight for its protection.  Become an honorary Pine Barrens trail scout.
