Could be Bradbury's finest book and one that inspired so many other stories.  This dark fantasy is about two 13-year-old best friends, Jim Nightshade and William Halloway, and their nightmarish experience with a traveling carnival that comes to their town in October.  This will give you all the October vibes you need.  Written with such poetic whimsy this one will keep you turning those pages.
