HOUSE ON OCTOBER HILL

A limited Halloween candle for the haunted house at the end of the street.

This is not your beloved Pumpkin Candle. There is no pie spice or sugary gourd here, no harvest-market sweetness, and just a whiff of seasonal spice. This dark lantern is traditional Halloween, bringing me back to when I was a kid. Black licorice, yup, the dreaded black confection! But this is much more. It opens with the cold snap of pippin apple and crushed spruce needles. Then the ground comes in: late-summer hay, dried grass, fallen leaves, and orchard wood gone quiet after dusk.

The damp moss underfoot, old timber, and distant chimney smoke settle into the room. Dark, dry, green, and faintly haunted, like walking home past a darkening field when the creatures start to stir.

Scent notes

• Top: cold apple skin, crushed spruce needles, black licorice
• Heart: late-summer hay, dried grass, fallen leaves, orchard wood
• Base: labdanum, damp moss, old timber, distant chimney smoke

Poured with black wax and a cotton wick.  16 oz ceramic vessel.  This limited Halloween release burns best after dark, when the moon is full.
