The Fire Island Lighthouse is not only a historical landmark but this waypoint on the Great South Bay serves as a beacon for wayfarers and boaters still today.  Operation began in 1858 and this beauty still shines.  If you haven't climbed the 168 ft tower, with its 182 steps spiraling up the center to the top, you need to add it to your summer bucket list.  The view is spectacular.
