Jamestown

Marsten & Marwood is the curious collection of peculiar fragrances handmade by Barnaby Black. Formulated with natural aromatics, raw botanicals, and fine fragrance materials, each scent is a small study in place, memory, and atmosphere.

Jamestown is dark Americana caught in the half light of the New World. Thornapple, jimsonweed, devil's trumpet, and the cloying datura flower rise through resinous pine, cade, cumin, and Atlantic white cedar. What sorcery. What witchcraft. What hoodoo.

The Scent

Bright bergamot and black tea sharpen the opening before black datura and wild beach rose pull the fragrance into stranger territory. Tobacco, hearthfire, wool, birch bark, and cedar make the drydown feel old-world and forgotten, like a room left warm after the last story has been told.

Fragrance Structure

• Top: bergamot, black tea, and cardamom
• Heart: black datura flower, cumin seed, cade, white pine resin, and wild beach rose
• Base: wool absolute, benzoin, birch bark, American tobacco leaf, and Atlantic white cedar

Materials & Concentration

• Parfum extrait compounded at 35%
• Organic grain alcohol, live plant and tree infusions, steam-distilled essential oils, compounds, absolutes, and other fine botanical concentrates
• Atlantic white cedar leaf was harvested from cedar swamps in Rhode Island and tincture-aged for five years
• Steam distillation yields approximately one tablespoon from 30 pounds of plant material
