Pine Barrens

Marsten & Marwood is the curious collection of peculiar fragrances handmade by Barnaby Black. Formulated with natural aromatics, raw botanicals, and fine fragrance materials, each scent is a small study in place, memory, and atmosphere.

Pine Barrens is the true essence of mystery within Long Island's coastal pine forests, catalogued season by season and bottled as a single dark, resinous field study.

The Scent

Spring hardwood buds, summer pine, sweetfern, wildfires, and cade. Autumn leaves, pepper, and conifer. Winter wool and resin. The veil of the Pine Barrens unravels slowly, revealing smoke, tannin, animal warmth, and the green pressure of the forest.

Fragrance Structure

• Top: oak buds, black pepper, sweetfern, and bramble spice
• Heart: Pine Trinity - slash pine, pitch pine & white pine, juniper wood, forest tannins, and birch
• Base: brush fire, lanolin, labdanum, benzoin resin, and cade

Materials & Concentration

• Parfum extrait compounded at 35%
• Organic grain alcohol, live plant and tree infusions, steam-distilled essential oils, compounds, absolutes, and other fine botanical concentrates
• Sweetfern (Comptonia peregrina) was wild-harvested in the Long Island Pine Barrens to create a thick, resinous concrete
