Deep Slumber Mountain

Marsten & Marwood is the curious collection of peculiar fragrances handmade by Barnaby Black. Formulated with natural aromatics, raw botanicals, and fine fragrance materials, each scent is a small study in place, memory, and atmosphere.

Deep Slumber Mountain is our chypre: a moss-covered forest composition born from a hike through the Blue Ridge Mountains and the discovery of wild-growing Fraser fir in the rainforest habitats of those mountains. This rare and threatened tree is honored here in conifer, resin, leaf litter, and deep earth.

The Scent

Cold mountain air opens into old-growth conifer, incense cedar, and pine tar. Lichen, oakmoss, leaf litter, and dark vetiver pull the fragrance down into the forest floor, while fir, yuzu, and green resin keep a thread of light moving through the canopy.

Fragrance Structure

• Top: yuzu peel, bergamot, coriander, and wild lavender
• Heart: old-growth conifer, grand fir, incense cedar, nootka cedar, green resin, and pine sap
• Base: pine tar, lichen, oakmoss, leaf litter, dark vetiver, patchouli, cistus, and deep forest
