Night Swimming

Marsten & Marwood is the curious collection of peculiar fragrances handmade by Barnaby Black. Formulated with natural aromatics, raw botanicals, and fine fragrance materials, each scent is a small study in place, memory, and atmosphere.

Night Swimming captures one of summer's greatest rituals: the last swim as the night unfolds. Underwater lights ripple across quiet blue water while warm concrete slowly cools. Fresh-cut grass, night-blooming jasmine, cedar, and the soft scent of a cotton towel drift through the air, carrying you back to those endless evenings when time stood still and tomorrow felt a lifetime away.

The Scent

Cool water and green leaves meet warm mineral earth, soft woods, and skin-warm fabric. Familiar at first, then stranger as it settles.

Fragrance Structure

• Top: lemon peel, green mandarin, garden mint, and green grass
• Heart: clear water, night-blooming jasmine, honeysuckle, fig leaf, and tomato leaf accord
• Base: warm concrete, cedarwood, cypress, Australian sandalwood, and cotton towel

Materials & Concentration

• Parfum extrait compounded at 25%
• Less than 30% of the formula is essential oil
• Organic grain alcohol, live plant and tree infusions, steam-distilled essential oils, compounds, absolutes, and other fine botanical concentrates

A Note on the Warm Concrete

The slight clay note comes from Mitti Attar, a rare material made from distilled, baked clay from India. In Night Swimming, it creates the scent of warm concrete cooling after dark.
